NMSP 2024 Full Rules

  1. You pick, at minimum, one game a week.

    1. In Weeks 1, 5, and 8, you will make two picks

      1. During the two pick weeks, you cannot pick both sides of the same game

  2. The winner is the person who picks the most games correctly throughout the season, NOT the one who survives the longest.

    1. Picking a team that ties will count as 0.5 wins.

    2. Once you pick a team, you may not pick that team again for the remainder of the season.

      1. Refer to the “Available Options” or “Picks For” tabs of the Google Sheet to see which teams are available to be picked by each contestant.

  3. Starting in Week 9, once you pick a team that loses, you may not pick again for the remainder of the season. Losing in Week 9 or later does not mean that you're eliminated from winning the NMSP as you can still win if no one surpasses you with the amount of games correctly picked.

    1. If a team you pick loses in Week 1 through Week 8, the only thing that happens is you don't pick up a win. You will still pick, at a minimum, through Week 9.

    2. [Commish’s note] Do not stop picking games just because you lost a game (or games) early in the season - you will have the ability to catch up!

      1. In last year’s main pool (71 participants), the winner and runner-up both started the season 0-4.

      2. Picking a team that loses in Week 1 through Week 8 has no effect on when you are unable to pick anymore.

    3. If you pick a team that ties in Week 9 or later, you will be able to continue picking games.

  4. The most times you can pick against any team is 3 times.

    1. As noted previously, refer to the “Available Options” or “Picks Against” tabs to see which teams are available to be picked by each contestant.

  5. Not picking a game by the pick submission deadline (Sundays at 1pm ET) will result in an automatic “No Pick,” which is counted as a loss.

  6. There is no re-entry into the pool once a game is incorrectly picked in Week 9 or later.

  7. Tiebreakers

    1. Tiebreak 1: The participant who has the smallest difference (i.e., the lower the score the better) between the end of season win total of teams picked for less the end of season win total of teams picked against, in games picked correctly.

      1. All things equal, it is better to pick teams with fewer wins and to pick against teams with more wins (Again, games need to be picked correctly for it to count towards your tiebreaker score, good or bad. Only the end of season win totals will count, not the record at the time the game is played.)

      2. Teams picked against will be counted as many times as they are picked against correctly (e.g., if you successfully picked against the NY Giants three times, and they only win four games this year, the total that they would add to your “Wins from Teams Picked Against” total, would be 12).

        1. As an example, let’s say I have picked three games correctly all season (season win totals in parentheses). I picked the Eagles (13) correctly against the Cowboys (6), the Jets (4) correctly against the Patriots (7), and the Buccaneers (11) correctly against the Patriots (7). My tiebreaker score would be 28 (13 + 4 +11 ) less 20 (6 + 7 + 7) = 8.

          1. All other games would be disregarded as I did not pick them correctly

          2. If a competitor also had three correct picks on the season but their tiebreaker score was 5, then they would be ahead of me.

          3. Tiebreak 2: Total point differential in all games picked

          4. Tiebreak 3: Person who survives the longest
